If you look closely, you’ll notice the page says John Calipari has in excess of 800,000 followers. That would put him up there with the true Twitter heavyweights like Ashton Kutcher, whose blatant egomania led him to beg and borrow his way to 1,000,000 followers, as well as less notable folks, like some dude named Barack Obama. With 800,000 followers, Calipari would go from regionally famous basketball coach to national celebrity. He would be a star.

But if you check Calipari’s Twitter page now, you’ll find a whole different figure…

Just happened upon the new Twitter look tonite…

to see it simply click on your FOLLOWING or FOLLOWERS link to the top right. Here is one version of it – the EXPANDED look

Then there is the LIST look.

I like them both. Makes it easy to see what that potential new follower has last posted. And with the rash of spammers now setting up shop on Twitter, it makes deciding on whom to follow much easier.

If you click your cursor in the ACTION button, a mini menu of four choices pops up. Much more elegant.

The only addition I wish Twitter would make is a radio button so you can mass follow and unfollow. Today I was a :grateful recipient” of being followed by a spammer who created 50 accounts and they all followed at once.

You can see there is no text indicating they had tweeted anything yet… but the way he created accounts is a dead giveaway as to his spamming intent. Lucky me I had 2 more bacthes of 50 so to delete/block almost 150 accounts is time consuming.

Twitter has gone through incredible growth over the last 90 days. Its really about time these “tweaks” were put in place.

Truthfully? I’ve only got 1991 followers on Twitter. But by the time you read this I should have easily gone over 2000.

What is twInfluence?
twInfluence is a simple tool using the Twitter API to to measure the combined influence of twitterers and their followers, with a few social network statistics thrown in as bonus.

We know that “A-List” Twitterers like Scoble, LeoLaporte, and BarackObama have a lot of influence on Twitter, because they have tens of thousands of followers. However, social network analysis teaches us that there is a “horizon of communication” that extends beyond your own direct contacts, and this is demonstrated whenever somebody “retweets” a message. The significance is that not all followers are equal.

Imagine Twitterer1, who has 10,000 followers – most of which are bots and inactives with no followers of their own. Now imagine Twitterer2, who only has 10 followers – but each of them has 5,000 followers. Who has the most real “influence?” Twitterer2, of course.

As of right now, 24,269 twitterers have profiles analyzed on twinfluence.com.
